ORLANDO, Fla. – For the second-straight year, McKenna Melville has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team.

She is only one of seven student-athletes named to the CoSIDA District Four NCAA Division I First Team, which covers the southeast United States.

The 2021 Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom, and the honor means that Melville is eligible to be part of the Academic All-American Team presented by CoSIDA.

"They are very peculiar and very protective of who gets named on the pathway to eventually become an Academic All-American," head coach Todd Dagenais, "I think it's fitting that one of our most productive players on the court, a national leader, is also known for her success in the classroom. As people dive into her academic numbers as well as her athletic numbers, they're going to see somebody who truly defines what it means to be a student-athlete.

"Receiving an award like this is really special and fulfilling for a program who preaches academics at such a high level. Our academic advisor, Carly Place, has done such a fantastic job with our team's academics."

The two-time recipient, Melville is only the fifth member of the Black and Gold to have earned the honor. McCutcheon was a three-time recipient (2010-12), while Jenny Heppert (2007-08), Emily Watts (2004) and Renata Menchikova (1997) round out the other Knights who have picked up the honor.

Melville was one of seven student-athletes named to the CoSIDA District Four NCAA Division I First Team, which covers the southeast United States.

A fourth-year Knight from Eagan, Minnesota, Melville was named AAC Preseason Player of the Year and has earned AAC Offensive Player of the Week five times so far this season.

Melville currently leads the nation in both points (595) and in kills (525) and also leads the conference with 5.67 points per set and 5.00 kills per set. The outside hitter has also been a defensive weapon as she has notched 312 digs and 64 blocks so far this season, collecting 14 double-doubles.
