Leerman Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

Opens in a new window 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District® Men's & Women's Soccer Teams

ORLANDO, Fla. – For the third straight season, a member of the UCF men's soccer team has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team. Yanis Leerman earns the nod this year for his efforts both on and off the pitch.

Leerman has been a staple on the UCF back line practically since his arrival. The Troyes, France native posted a career high in points this season, collecting his first career goal and three assists on the campaign. He started in all 17 of the Black and Gold's matches this season. Off the pitch, Leerman has earned a cumulative GPA of 3.37. He will graduate from UCF with a degree in Integrative Studies.

Andres Hernandez Betancur was honored with a First Team spot in the previous two seasons. He, along with Cal Jennings, were honored in 2019 before Hernandez became the first Knight to get the nod to the squad twice. Only seven members of the Black and Gold have earned the honor, with Jake Weiss (2014), A.J. Nelson (2011), Jon Imran (2005) and Brian Malec (2003) as the other four. Jennings and Malec were the only two Knights to be named as CoSIDA Academic All-Americans.

Leerman has earned multiple honors in his time at UCF, most recently being named an All-American last season. He has started the previous two campaigns on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List and has earned multiple All-Conference nods. Leerman has been a part of the conference's All-Academic team over the last two seasons.

Leerman is one of 13 student-athletes named to the CoSIDA District 4 NCAA Division I First Team, which covers the southeast United States. The district nod means that Leerman is eligible to be part of the Academic All-American Team presented by CoSIDA, which be announced at a later date.
