UCF Heads To Virginia For Midweek Matchup

ORLANDO – The first road trip of the 2021-22 season is on deck for the UCF women's basketball team as the Knights head to Charlottesville, Virginia to face the Cavaliers in a midweek matchup.
 
The teams tip at 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday in John Paul Jones Arena. The game will stream online through ACCNX  and will be available through participating TV providers that carry ACC Network and can be watched on the ESPN app and through WatchESPN.

LAST TIME OUT
UCF was unable to overcome a cold-shooting first half on Nov. 12, dropping a 49-41 decision to No. 12/15 Tennessee. The Knights forced the Lady Vols into 28 turnovers but shot just 26.9 percent from the field on the night - 16.7 percent in the first two quarters.
 
The Black and Gold outscored Tennessee in the second half and made a run in the third quarter to pull within four but were unable to overcome the early deficit.
 
Diamond Battles scored a career-high 21 points to lead UCF. Destiny Thomas continued her strong showing on the boards, pulling down 11 rebounds.
 
KNIGHT NOTES
• Diamond Battles is off to a hot start to the season, averaging 18.5 points per game. The Winter Haven, Florida, native hit a career-high four three-pointers in the season opener on her way to 16 points against Duquesne.
• Battles shot a scorching 66.7 percent from three in both games and ranks 26th in the nation in three-point field goal percentage.
• Ahna Burney is second on the team in scoring after pouring in a career-high 16 points in the season opener.
• Destiny Thomas opened the season with 10 rebounds and followed it up by matching her career high with 11 boards against No. 12/15 Tennessee. Her 10.5 rebounds per game rank 40th in the country.

SCOUTING VIRGINIA
The Cavaliers enter Wednesday with an 0-2 mark after dropping an 84-69 decision at James Madison before falling 65-48 against USC.
 
Camryn Taylor paces the Cavaliers with 16.5 points per game while shooting 46.4 percent from the floor. Carole Miller joins Taylor in double figures, averaging 10.0 points per contest on 42.9 percent shooting. Kaydan Lawson leads Virginia in rebounding, pulling down 9.0 boards per game. Taylor Valladay dishes out 4.5 assists per game with 1.0 steals per contest.
 
Wednesday's contest marks the second straight year and the third time overall that UCF and Virginia face off on the hardwood. The series is tied 1-1, with UCF winning last year in Orlando and the Cavaliers owning a neutral site victory from 2006. Wednesday is the first matchup in Charlottesville.
