Knights Sign Abby Schomers

ORLANDO, Fla. – The UCF volleyball team secured a big addition to the 2022 recruiting class with the signing of Abby Schomers on Wednesday.

Head coach Todd Dagenais along with associate head coach and recruiting coordinator, Jenny Mauer, and other members from the staff, bring in the six-foot setter from Omaha, Nebraska to improve on an already impressive roster.

"We had our sights set on Abby for a long time," head coach Todd Dagenais said, "When we set out before COVID hit, we knew we wanted to get another setter in because we didn't know there was going to be an extension of time and we thought Amber was going to be graduating.

"Schomers has won national championships with her club team and just won a state championship with her high school team. She's a winner on and off the court and in the classroom. She certainly has an extremely bright future with our program, and we couldn't be happier with the type of person that she is.

"We know how good she is with handling and distributing the ball, but we're ten times more excited with the type of young woman she is and what she brings to our team from that aspect as well. She'll have an impact on us."

Head Coach Dagenais and the staff may look to add more additions to the roster for the 2022 recruiting class after January.

Schomers is a six-foot setter from Omaha, Nebraska where she was a four-time state champion and four-year letter-winner at Skutt Catholic High School.

In her senior season as a Skyhawk, Schomers recorded 1,264 assists, 36 blocks, 63 kills, .441 efficiency, and 21 aces. She has also collected many awards in her four years, including All-Conference First Team, Omaha World Herald: All-Class Tournament Team, Class B Tournament Team, Class B Honorable Mention, and All-Nebraska Honorable Mention as well as Lincoln Journal Star: All-Class, Class B All-Tournament team, and two-time All-State Honorable Mention

"I chose UCF because I instantly felt welcomed by the coaching staff and everyone felt like a family to me," Abby Schomers said, "It was my home away from home and the campus is outstanding. They are an amazing program and are still growing."
