TULSA, Okla. – Trey Hilderbrand of the UCF men's tennis team advanced to the main draw at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He defeated three opponents in the qualifying rounds to secure his spot in the main draw.
After Hilderbrand's win yesterday, the Knight opened play today in the second round of the qualifying singles draw. He came back after dropping the second set to win in three over Carl Emil Overbeck of Cal with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
Hilderbrand then defeated No. 122 Blake Croyder from Georgia in the same way as he took the first in 6-3 but dropped the second set in 3-6. Hilderbrand came back to win the match with a score of 6-4 in the third to advance to the main draw.
Also competing in the second round of the qualifying singles draw, Bogdan Pavel held on to earn a big win over No. 64 Cleeve Harper from Texas, who played as the No. 13 seed in the bracket, with a 6-3, 7-5 decision. In the final qualifying round, Pavel fell to No. 112 Tristan Boyer from Stanford by a 6-4, 6-2 decision.
In the qualifying consolation draw, No. 70 Lleyton Cronje picked up a win over Rafael Marques Da Silva from Liberty in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
No. 88 Kento Yamada also played in the qualifying consolation draw but the match was retired due to injury and Yamada fell to No. 116 Jake Finn Bass of Baylor in 4-6, 5-2.
