Two Knights Advance in Qualifying Singles

TULSA, Okla. – The UCF men's tennis team competed in the qualifying draws on Monday at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma and both Trey Hilderbrand and Bogdan Pavel advanced to the second round.
All four Knights saw action in singles, playing in the qualifying draw. Bogdan Pavel picked up a win over Nicola Vidal from Old Dominion in a quick 6-2, 6-2 decision to move on to the next round.
Trey Hilderbrand also advanced to the second round after his match against Marin Delmas from Temple. Hilderbrand dropped the first set but was able to come back and take the next two as he won with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
The pair will play in the second round on Tuesday with an attempt to make it into the main draw.
No. 70 Lleyton Cronje opened play against Alexander Hoogmartens of UCLA in his debut as a Knight. Cronje, playing as the #17-32 seed in the draw, came out hot to take the first set but was unable to hang on as he fell 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
No. 88 Kento Yamada, playing as the #17-32 seed in the draw, faced Vlad Lobak from LSU in the first round. After dropping the first set, Yamada came back to force the third, but ultimately fell by a score of 6-0, 4-6, 7-6(3)
Kento Yamada and Lleyton Cronje then teamed up to compete in the doubles qualifying draw of 64. The duo took on Luc Fomba and Pedro Vives Marcos from TCU, but fell 7-6(5), 6-0.
