ORLANDO Fla. – After a pair of sweeps over South Florida and Temple this past week, Nerissa Moravec was named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
"Nerissa has been very consistent in blocking, not only getting blocks for points, but slowing the ball down, allowing our offense to transition off of it or forcing a lot of errors by her placement," head coach Todd Dagenais said, "She's with Anne-Marie two out of three times and the two of them really provide a formidable blocking duo."
This marks the fifth weekly honor UCF has received this season and is Moravec's third-career honor as she earned defensive player of the week twice last season. Moravec was also most recently named to the honor roll two weeks ago.
After going 2-0 on the weekend, defeating both South Florida and Temple in straight sets, Moravec posted 10 blocks in just six sets (2.00 per set). She also added 11 kills (2.20 per set) while hitting .500 and 16 points (3.20 per set).
In the first of two War On I-4 matchups, Moravec put up four blocks, six kills and hit .556 on nine attempts.
On Sunday, the Knights charged through Temple in three sets where Moravec led with six blocks (2.00 per set). She added five kills and hit .444 on nine attempts.
The Lincoln, Nebraska native, leads the conference with 1.42 blocks per set, which ranks 15th in the nation and is 16th in the country with 92 blocks.
McKenna Melville was also named to the honor roll this week, her third this season. Melville posted 34 kills (5.47 per set), hit .357, and added 41.5 points in just six sets.
