Knights Conclude ITA-Regional Run

ORLANDO, Fla. – While the UCF women's tennis team concluded action at the ITA Southeast Regional tournament, Evgeniya Levashova highlighted the day as she advanced all the way to the singles final four at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.

No. 80 Evgeniya Levashova first opened the day in the elite eight with a big upset over No. 15 Meg Kowalski from Georgia, who was playing as the No. 1 seed in the tournament. Levashova came out fast to win the first set, 6-4, before dropping the second, 5-7. But she was unphased and came back to win the third with a score of 6-1 to seal the win and advance to the final four.

Levashova faced No. 125 Petra Hule from Florida State, who was playing as the No. 12 seed in the tournament, in the final four in hopes of making the championship match tomorrow. Levashova grabbed the first set, but could not hold on as she fell, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0.

Marie Mattel also competed in the elite eight where she forced a tough battle against No. 125 Hule from Florida State that came down to the very end. After dropping the first set, 6-4, Mattel was not going to give up the second as she won it in 7(3)-6 to force the third. Just like the first two, the third was not going to be given, but Mattel ultimately fell 7-5.
