ORLANDO – The UCF men's golf team is set to kick off the season over the weekend as the Knights will open the year at the Island Resort Collegiate, hosted by South Dakota State University in Harris, Michigan.
The tournament will kick off on Sunday, September 5 and run through Monday, September 6, at Sage Run Golf Club. The course will play at a par-72 and measure approximately 7,375 yards for the weekend. Fans can follow along with scores live on golfstat.com here.
UCF will open with a 36-hole round on day one before wrapping things up with an 18-hole final round on Monday.
The field of competition the Knights will take on over the weekend includes the University of Kentucky, University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Middle Tennessee University, Northern Michigan University, South Dakota State University, Bowling Green State University, University of Detroit Mercy, and University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
With the first official qualifier officially in the books, the Knights will roll out a lineup that consists of Egor Eroshenko, Jonah Leach, Luis Carrera, Johnny Travale and a fifth player that will be determined prior to teeing off on Sunday.
The Knights will also compete the rest of their roster as individuals in the tournament. The full list of UCF golfers participating as individuals this weekend is listed below.
Two Knights competing in the lineup are familiar faces for head coach Bryce Wallor as both Travale and Eroshenko played in every event for the Black and Gold last season.
Travale led the Knights in scoring average over his first two seasons in the Black and Gold, posting a 71.71 score in that time, while Eroshenko was one of just three Knights to play in all six tournaments and was fifth on the team with a 74.39 scoring average.
Meanwhile, both Carrera (Senior) and Leach (R-Freshman) are newcomers to the squad in 2021-22 and will look to make an immediate impact on the course. You can read more about the Knights' complete roster for this season here.
QUALIFYING INFORMATION
- Egor Eroshenko will play in the first spot in the lineup at the Island Resort Collegiate Invitational as a result of winning the five-round qualifier with a score of -4
- Jonah Leach will play in the second spot in the lineup at the Island Resort Collegiate Invitational as a result of coming in second place in the five-round qualifier with a score of -1
- Luis Carrera will play in the third spot in the lineup at the Island Resort Collegiate Invitational as a result of coming in third place in the five-round qualifier with a score of Even Par
- Johnny Travale will play in the foruth spot in the lineup at the Island Resort Collegiate Invitational as a coaches' selection as a result of coming in fifth place in the five-round qualifier with a score of +1 and having the highest World Amateur Golf Ranking on the team of 158.
- The fifth spot in the lineup will be determined prior to teeing off on Sunday.
