Taylor Honored as Offensive Player of the Week

ORLANDO, Fla. – After tallying a goal and an assist in the team's 4-1 win over Temple, Nick Taylor of the UCF men's soccer team has been named the American Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Week.

Taylor has played a huge role in the team's success over the past three matches, tallying a handful of assists and recently scoring his first goal as a Knight. Taylor is on a four-match point streak dating back to the team's loss at NC State. Since then, he's climbed to the top of the NCAA ranks in assists with seven, along with assists per game.

Friday night saw Alessandro Campoy net an early chance created by Gino Vivi to put UCF up 1-0 in the opening minutes. Temple came back to tie the match at 1-1 in the waning moments of the first half. Moments after returning from the break, Taylor had the ball in the left wing and threaded a beautiful pass to a charging Lucca Doruado in the penalty area who tapped it home. Taylor opened his scoring account later in the match, stopping and popping from the top of the 18-yard box and tucking one just inside the far post to ice the match.

Yanis Leerman earned a spot on The American's Weekly Honor Roll for his performance against Temple. He tallied an assist on the final goal of the match, officially putting the game away with a three-goal lead and ten minutes to go. For the second straight game, Leerman and the Knights' defense held their opposition to just a single goal, piecing together back-to-back 4-1 wins to open conference play.
