CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Knights' first tournament of the season is officially in the books as the UCF women's golf team finished tied for fifth overall at the Cougar Classic on Tuesday with a score of 861(-3).
"Overall, I'm pretty happy with our performance," said Knights' head coach Emily Marron. "The first event of the year is always a good way to see how competitive we can be and we showed that we have the talent to take on the best teams in the country. We saw some great play from our girls and have a ton of potential with this team."
At fifth place and with scores of 289-284-288=861(-3), the Knights tied North Carolina and placed higher than No. 23 Vanderbilt and No. 22 Maryland in their first event of the season.
Leading the charge for the Knights were junior Tunrada Piddon and sophomore Camille Banzet. After the duo each posted 4-under 68 rounds on Monday, they finished strong on the final day of the classic on Tuesday, posting final scores of 212(-4), good for tenth place.
Freshman Zoe Allaux also shined in her UCF debut. After posting two rounds under par to open her career, the Narbonne, France native finished the Cougar Classic at 1-under-par to earn a top-20 finish with a 71-70-74=215(-1) line.
Meanwhile, after a slow start, sophomore Jess Baker turned in back-to-back rounds of 73(+1) to finish the tournament at 224(+8), good for T66 place, and Ana Laura Collado finished round three with a 74(+2) score to move to 89th place with a 231(+15) total.
