ORLANDO, Fla. – McKenna Melville was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after a career-high weekend at the UCF Invitational which led to big wins over Florida Gulf Coast and Florida State to help UCF win the tournament.
"Going 2-1 against a top-50 Florida State and a top-50 Florida Gulf Coast with the national player of the week numbers that McKenna put up, I am glad the conference recognized that and awarded her player of the week," head coach Todd Dagenais said, "She was certainly deserving of it for several weeks now, but we were finally able to beat our top-50 opponents and gave her the opportunity to earn this award."
The Offensive Player of the Week award marks Melville's eighth career honor as she earned one last year, two in 2019, and four in 2018.
Melville led The American with 5.93 points per set and posted the 10th-best conference hitting percentage at .322. She notched 73 kills over the weekend and recorded two big double-doubles, her fifth this season and 57th in her career.
Melville recorded a career-high 30 kills while hitting .366 on the final day of the tournament against Georgia. She also added 10 digs for a double-double and three service aces. In the emotional, five-setter win over FSU, the senior posted an incredible double-double with 27 kills and a career-high 28 digs. She also added three more service aces. In the match against FGCU, Melville also notched double-digit kills with 16 and hit .353.
The Eagan, Minn. native, leads the conference and is highly ranked in the nation in six categories. Melville leads the conference with 187 points (second in the nation), 6.03 points per set (third in the nation), 5.23 kills per set (third in the nation), 13.03 attacks per set (fifth in the nation), 162 total kills (sixth in the nation), and 404 total attacks (13th in the nation).
Melville also leads the nation with 4.58 career kills per set.

The Knights will travel to Boca Raton, Fla. to compete in the Sunshine Classic against Miami, FGCU, and the host-team Florida Atlantic on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 16-17.
