ORLANDO – Former UCF Men's Basketball big man Tacko Fall has inked a one-year deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers, as reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic on Tuesday.
Standing in at 7-foot-6, Fall spent his first two seasons in the NBA with the Boston Celtics, averaging 2.7 points and 2.6 rebounds in 26 total appearances. After graduating from UCF in 2019, Fall became a fan favorite in the league, generating chants for playing time and standing ovations when he entered games.
Fall is UCF's all-time leader in blocked shots and field goal percentage. The former UCF star racked up a number of impressive accolades during his time in the Black and Gold as he was named the 2017 American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year, a 2017 Defensive All-American, and a 2019 All-Conference honoree in The American. He led the Knights to their first NCAA Tournament berth in over a decade and the program's first NCAA Tournament win, a first-round victory over VCU in 2019.
His career field goal percentage of 74.0 percent (497-for-672) set a new NCAA Division I record, and he holds the top four single-season field goal percentage marks in UCF history.
Fall also earned All-Defensive Team accolades from the G League in June of 2020 after averaging 12.9 points, 11.1 rebounds and 2.9 blocked shots per game with the Maine Red Claws, the G League affiliate of the Boston Celtics.
In 19 NBA games last season, Fall averaged 2.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.1 blocks over 7.2 minutes per night.
Fall joins a Cleveland front line that features Kevin Love, Jarrett Allen, No. 3 overall pick Evan Mobley and recently signed Lauri Markkanen.
With the Cavaliers, Fall will compete for one of the team's final roster spots or possibly slot into a two-way contract.
