UCF Hosts Black & Gold Scrimmage

ORLANDO, Fla. – The UCF volleyball team wrapped up its preseason practice with its annual Black and Gold Scrimmage on Saturday from The Venue.

Rotating players between the two team, Team Black topped Team Gold 3-0. The Black squad opened with a 25-16 victory before claiming set two in 25-15. Team Gold came on strong in the third, but Team Black was able to seal the match with a 27-25 win in the third.

In unofficial stats, McKenna Melville dominated both sides of the court, hitting .286 with 16 kills and recording 13 digs on the night while Heidi Bonde had 11 kills and hit an efficient .260. Anne-Marie Watson also notched 11 kills, hitting .250 and had a team high four blocks in three sets. MaKenzie Chambers added nine kills and Tali Marmen recorded eight. Todd's Thoughts:
"It was nice to have fans here. I think that's an important step to be able to perform in front of a crowd. It brings a whole new level and I think we responded really well to it.

"I'm really happy with the difference of where we were today and where we were just Wednesday. It was really simple for us to identify what happened on Wednesday and made the fix on Thursday and Friday. I think it showed here tonight. Our offensive numbers were higher, our passing numbers were higher, every number was higher. We certainly have stepped in the right direction."

The Knights will open the regular season next week at home at the UCF Challenge on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 27-28, against two AVCA preseason top 25 teams, No. 12 Penn State and No. 24 Georgia Tech, as well as St. John's.
