ORLANDO, Fla. – With the fall campaign just around the corner, the UCF men's soccer team is looking for the heir to the goalkeeping throne that had been occupied by Yannik Oettl over the past four seasons.
The Knights have three goalkeepers on their roster for the 2021 season. Matt Douglass, Bernardo Brandao and Tyler Lavigne all return to the squad to make up the keeper room.
Douglass is the lone member of the Black and Gold's goalkeeping group to see match action. He made his collegiate debut during the spring at Tulsa on Feb. 27 in a 3-1 loss, making three saves in the contest. The redshirt junior and the Knights bounced back the following week as Douglass stopped three shots to earn his first win as the Black and Gold topped Memphis 2-1 at home. The win sparked an unbeaten streak that lasted all the way until the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament as the Knights finished the rest of the regular season unblemished. Prior to UCF, Douglass captained a three-time national championship squad at Montverde Academy.
Brandao returns to UCF as a redshirt sophomore this season. The Rio de Janeiro native was named the IMG Goalkeeper of the Year in both his sophomore and junior seasons prior to coming to Orlando. He recorded 10 clean sheets in his junior year at IMG and logged 515 minutes without conceding a goal.
Redshirt freshman Lavigne rounds out the Black and Gold's goalkeeper room. The Orlando City Development Academy alumnus is a St. Cloud native and was named All-Conference Goalkeeper of the year in his junior year. He was the captain of his U17 Orlando Development Academy squad and a three-time state cup champion.
