ORLANDO, Fla. – The UCF men's soccer team is set to open its 2021 campaign with a pair of exhibition matches. The Knights will host Stetson on Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. and visit FAU on Aug. 20 at 6 p.m.
UCF looks to continue their winning ways heading into the 2021 fall season. The Black and Gold had an incredible run in the spring in which they turned a 1-3 start into a Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA Tournament. In a 10-match, conference only slate, the Knights ripped off six straight victories to secure their third straight American Athletic Conference regular season title as well as the top seed in the conference tournament. UCF made history by beating SMU in penalties in the semifinals and then Tulsa in the final, securing their first conference tournament title as part of The American and locking in their automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The Knights' two exhibitions won't count towards the team's overall record or statistics for the 2021 season. During regular season and postseason matches, UCF is 34-10-3 against Stetson, coming away victorious in their last three meetings. The Black and Gold are just as impressive against FAU, going 23-8-3 against the Owls including a 5-0-2 mark over their previous seven tilts.
UCF faced both the Hatters and Owls during the 2019 campaign, beating both squads 3-2 in overtime. 2020-21 was the first time since 1980 that the Knights' schedule didn't feature Stetson or FAU on the regular season slate.
The Black and Gold's exhibition on Saturday is free to attend.
