Gordon Drafted on Day Two

 
ORLANDO, Fla. – On the second day of the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft, UCF pitcher Colton Gordon heard his name called by a big-league club. Gordon was selected in the eighth round by the Houston Astros with the 286th pick in the draft.
 



 
With one more day and 10 more rounds on the final day of the 2021 MLB Draft, Colton Gordon's selection marks 14 consecutive years the Knights have been represented in the event. The Bradenton, Fla. native's selection becomes the 109th draft pick in UCF baseball's 48-year history.
 
The southpaw finished his 2021 campaign on April 16 due to injury, but still amassed nine starts and tallied a 5-2 record with a 2.77 ERA. Despite missing the final five series of the season, Gordon led the Knights with 72 strikeouts at the conclusion of the year. At the time of Gordon's last outing, his 72 strikeouts put him 11th in the nation and first in The American. He was also 4th in the American and 85th in the nation with his 2.77 ERA.
