The Keep Charging On Fund, established by UCF Athletics a year ago specifically to assist with resources during the Covid-19 pandemic, has more than surpassed its $2 million goal.
"I applaud Knight Nation--they deserve a tremendous amount of credit for stepping forward to support UCF Athletics at a time of great uncertainty," says UCF vice president and director of athletics Terry Mohajir. "Our folks absolutely rose to the occasion, and it's just one more example of how we have the best fan base in the country."
UCF in recent years has celebrated unprecedented levels of success and achievement in virtually every measurable category on and off the field. Despite enduring more than a year of existing under pandemic conditions due to Covid, the Knights never permitted that momentum to subside in 2020-21.
UCF claimed 2021 American Athletic Conference titles in volleyball, men's soccer and men's and women's tennis and saw nine Knight teams make postseason appearances—including NCAA Sweet 16 spots for men's soccer and women's tennis.
That fund officially closed June 30 (the end of the fiscal year) after 2,156 donors made cash contributions of more than $2 million.
UCF Athletics offers a special thank you to two anonymous donors whose significant contributions included matching gifts.
After starting at UCF in February, Mohajir already champions the departmental goal of building all the Knights' varsity programs into potential title-winning teams. His tenure has been highlighted by $5 million in gift commitments since Feb. 1. UCF Athletics booked almost $10 million in gift commitments for fiscal year 2021.
"Our core job is to provide student-athletes and coaches with resources they need to achieve high success on and off the playing surfaces," he says.
Meanwhile, the ChargeOn Fund name is now attached to the Knights' ongoing fundraising and unrestricted giving platform (previously known as Championship Resources).
"I know this minor adjustment will help us communicate in a more effective way relative to UCF Athletics," Mohajir says. "Knight Nation, we still need you to take every step of this journey with us."
UCF Athletics has a goal of reaching 10,000 donors by the end of the next fiscal year. The Shareholders Society, UCF Athletics' major gift program, currently recognizes almost 190 donors.
