EUGENE, Ore. – The 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship begins Thursday at Hayward Field for the UCF track and field rookie duo of Rayniah Jones and Asherah Collins.
Rayniah Jones opens action for the Knights in the semifinals of the 100-meter hurdles. Slated for a 7:32 p.m. ET/4:32 p.m. PT start, the hurdle semifinals will air on ESPN2. Jones is in the second heat of the semifinals. The top two from each heat plus the next three best times will advance to Saturday's final.
Asherah Collins will compete in the triple jump on Saturday. She is slated for 6:20 p.m. ET/3:20 p.m. PT start and is in the second flight. The triple jump will be streamed on ESPN3.
UCF has multiple individual competitors at the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2016. The Knights have been represented at 11 of the last 12 championships. Jones is the first Knight to compete in the 100-meter hurdles at the national meet since Jackie Coward in 2012. Collins is the second Knights to advance to the NCAA Championship in the triple jump, joining Dione Thomas (2009).
Jones is joined by Jernaya Sharp as the two American Athletic Conference competitors in the 100H and is one of two hurdles from the state of Florida. Collins is the lone triple jumper from The American to make it to Eugene and is one of five competitors representing the Sunshine State in the event.
