ORLANDO – Former UCF men's golfer Connor Arendell qualified for the Rocket Mortgage Classic, part of the PGA TOUR, after winning the open qualifier in Rochester, Michigan on Monday with a score of 65(-6).
Arendell birdied the final two holes on the front nine to sit at two under par heading into the turn. He then eagled a par four and birdied twice more to finish the day at six under par and claim first place all to himself and secure a spot in the upcoming Rocket Mortgage Classic.
The 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic will take place from July 1-4 at Detroit Golf Club in Detroit, Michigan. It is the only PGA TOUR event ever held in Detroit and set to be broadcast live on Golf Channel and CBS. The event will consist of four rounds of 18 holes, with the champion earning $1,350,000 (from a $7.5 million purse) and 500 FedExCup points. The 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic winner was Bryson DeChambeau, who shot 23-under 265 to win by three.
In two seasons at UCF, Arendell averaged 73.46 strokes per round after competing in 23 tournaments. In his second season, Arendell averaged 72.43, one of the best single-season averages in program history. The Cape Coral native helped UCF win back-to-back Conference USA titles and two NCAA Regional appearances.
