Knights Add Emerson Newsome to Men's Golf Staff

ORLANDO – UCF men's golf head coach Bryce Wallor announced the addition of Emerson Newsome to the Knights as an assistant coach on Monday afternoon.

"We're excited to bring Emerson on board as our new Men's Golf Assistant Coach," said Wallor. "Emerson has excelled in every facet of the game and brings with him a wealth of experience at each level.

"From exceeding expectations on the course and in the classroom during his time as a student-athlete to winning collegiate and professional events, Emerson has been there and done that. I look forward to what he will bring to the table for our student-athletes next season and beyond."

Newsome grew up in Atlanta, Georgia where he had a junior career consisting of over 15 victories across multiple junior tour circuits. Prior to his time on the professional landscape, Newsome was a standout at the University of Cincinnati, where he earned a Division I scholarship to play for the Bearcats' men's golf team from 2012-2016.

During his time as a student-athlete at Cincinnati, Newsome was named a three-year team captain. He was able to compile a win at the 2013 Old Waverly Collegiate Championship and in doing so, earned Big East Player of the Week honors. His career featured nine top-10 results and 19 top-30 finishes.

Newsome also excelled in the classroom, earning Big East Academic All-Academic Team accolades in 2013, American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team honors from 2014-16, and NCAA Academic All-American honors in 2016. He served on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee where he acted as a liaison between the student athletes and the athletic department from 2014-16. Newsome was also inducted into University of Cincinnati's Legion of Excellence Hall of Fame for posting the highest GPA on the men's golf team.

Newsome's amateur highlights feature qualifying for the 2016 U.S. Amateur by winning his qualifier by four shots. The same year, Newsome reached U.S. Open sectionals and registered a top-10 finish in the Dogwood Invitational. His amateur career also featured a second-place finish at the 2013 Chattanooga Choo Choo Invitational.

Upon turning professional at the start of 2017, Newsome immediately earned status on the Mackenzie Tour (PGA Tour Canada) and once again advanced through to U.S Open Sectional qualifying. The same year, he recorded his first professional victory at the Eagles Book Open by winning a three-hole sudden death playoff. Career highlights include a career two-day low of 130 (66-64) to finish second on the Florida Professional Golf Tour and a T2 place finish at the 2018 Toledo Open. Newsome competed in over 75 professional events spanning across two countries and 15 states.

"I'm thrilled to be joining coach Wallor and the UCF men's golf program," said Newsome. "I'm blessed to be welcomed into the UCF family and to have the opportunity to learn under the tutelage of Coach Wallor.

"There is a strong tradition of excellence at UCF, and I look forward to building on the program's continued success. The energy surrounding the program is incredible and I'm ready to help lead these talented student-athletes," said Newsome.
