ORLANDO – An outstanding rookie campaign with UCF Rowing has led Charlotte Wiley to being named the 2021 American Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
"Charlotte made a big impact in every boat she raced in this season," UCF head coach Becky Cramer said. "She improved a lot throughout the course of the year. Charlotte played a big role in our success this season, specifically at the conference championships."
A native of Guilford, Conn., Wiley joined the Knights in the fall of 2020 and spilt time during her first collegiate rowing season in a three of UCF's top boats during the 2021 campaign.
She began the spring racing in the Varsity Four before moving up to the Varsity Eight for three straight regattas. She moved into the Second Varsity Eight when the Knights hosted Miami on Lake Pickett before returning to the V8 for the Lake Wheeler Invite.
Wiley was the five seat of the 2V8 that finished second while also helping the Knights to a runner-up performance at The American Championship in May.
