Women's Tennis to Host 3 Top 50 Teams for ITA Kickoff Weekend 2022

ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 11 UCF women's tennis team will host a region of the 2022 ITA Kickoff Weekend on Jan. 28-29, marking the first time in program history that they will host the event. They'll welcome No. 22 Auburn, No. 31 Arizona State and No. 50 UC Santa Barbara to Orlando in early 2022, with one team advancing through to ITA National Indoors.

The Black and Gold will open ITA Kickoff Weekend against No. 50 UC Santa Barbara on Jan. 28 before facing either No. 22 Auburn or No. 31 Arizona State the following day, depending on the result of each match. The two winners from day one will face off in the championship match on Jan. 29 at 1 p.m. as they'll look to punch their ticket to ITA National Indoors.

The top 15 teams from last season's final Oracle/ITA rankings earned the right to host a four-team bracket as part of ITA Kickoff Weekend for the upcoming season. The 15 winners from each region will join the Badgers in Wisconsin for ITA National Indoors sometime in February. The Knights have never reached ITA National Indoors.

Teams in the ITA Kickoff Draft are assigned pick numbers based on their finish in the previous season's final Oracle/ITA rankings and regional finishes. Auburn selected to be the two seed in the Knights' region with the No. 7 pick of the draft while Arizona State used the No. 15 pick to be the weekend's No. 3 seed. UC Santa Barbara elected to be the fourth seed with the 33rd pick in the draft.

UCF has only met Auburn twice in their history, falling to them in 2002 and 2005. The Knights have faced UC Santa Barbara once before, beating them 4-1 in Orlando in February of 2020. The Black and Gold have never squared off with Arizona State.

The UCF men's tennis team also earned the right to host for ITA Kickoff Weekend. The men's draft takes place tomorrow at noon, with the men playing on the two days following the women.
