Orlando, Fla. – The Knights were held scoreless in the series opener against South Florida Friday night, falling victim to AAC pitching leader Georgina Corrick to drop the series opener against the Bulls, 2-0 at the UCF Softball Complex in Orlando, Florida.
With the loss, the Knights move to 34-16-1 on the season and 13-7-1 in conference play.
Corrick was lights out in game one. Coming off back-to-back NFCA national pitcher of the week awards, the six-foot right-hander hurled a complete game shutout while holding the Knights to just four hits and striking out five.
The closest the Knights came to cracking Corrick was in the sixth inning, when UCF loaded the bases and Denali Schappacher hit a ball just foul that would have tied the game, but on the next pitch, Schappacher grounded out and Corrick was able to escape the jam to keep UCF off the board and move her to 21-5 in the circle this season.
In the circle for the Knights, Alea White almost evenly matched Corrick, tossing a complete game as well and allowing two runs (none earned). Unfortunately, the lack of run support would seal her fate and with the loss, White moves to 17-6 on the season.
The Knights will look to bounce back against the Bulls on Saturday as the two sides square off in a doubleheader with games at 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Key Moments
- With runners on second and third and one away in the top of the third, the Bulls knocked in a run on a sacrifice-fly to take the early 1-0 lead.
- The next batter singled to third base to drive in another run and move the Bulls' lead to 2-0.
- The Knights loaded the bases with just one away in the bottom of the sixth but couldn't take advantage, and the Bulls escaped the inning to maintain their 2-0 lead.
