JACKSONVILLE – The UCF track and field team opened NCAA East Preliminary action by advancing in two events on Thursday in Jacksonville.
Rayniah Jones advanced to the quarterfinals in both the 100 hurdles and the 100-meter dash. She finished second in her hurdles heat with a time of 12.91 to advance to Saturday's quarterfinal. The Miami native ran her fastest win-legal 100-meter dash less than an hour later, finishing second in her heat in 11.29 to move on to Saturday.
Jasmine Scott-Kilgo opened the day with a 19-8/5.99m mark in the triple jump. She finished 29th overall in the event.
Alexis Woodley just missed the cutoff to advance the 100-meter hurdles, finishing 25th in 13.27. Latasha Smith posted a collegiate best 53.75 to finish 31st in the 400-meter run. Selena Wright rounded out the day with a 1:00.63 mark to finish 40th in the 400-meter hurdles.
UCF returns to action on Saturday, beginning with Asherah Collins and Kiara Lee in the triple jump at 3:15 p.m. Jones' 100H quarterfinals are set for 6:45 p.m., followed by the 100m quarterfinals at 7:05 p.m. The 4x4 relay closes out the event at 9:15 p.m.
The top 12 individuals in each event, along with the top 12 relay teams, will earn a spot at the NCAA Championships, which runs from June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore.
