ORLANDO – The No. 9 UCF men's tennis team is set to open NCAA Tournament action on Saturday, hosting the first and second rounds at the UCF Collegiate Center at the USTA National Campus.
The nationally seeded Knights welcome Monmouth, Mississippi State and Miami for first and second round action. Mississippi State and Miami are slated for an 11 a.m. start, followed by a 2 p.m. start for UCF and Monmouth.
Saturday marks the first meeting between the Knights and the Hawks. Monmouth earned an automatic bid after winning its fifth consecutive MAAC Championship. The Blue & White are currently on a 12-match winning streak and have an overall record of 14-2.
All six of Monmouth's singles players earned All-MAAC honors, along with the doubles of Will Cooke Wharton and Charles Gortzounian. Monmouth head coach Chris Leicht was named MAAC Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
The Knights earned their second straight NCAA Tournament bid while garnering a national seed for the first time in program history. They enter the tournament on a hot streak, winning their last 13 matches and are victorious in 18 of their last 19.
Mississippi State and Miami round out the Orlando region. The Knights have never faced the Bulldogs. While Miami leads the all-time series 15-3, the three Black and Gold victories have come over the last four seasons.
