ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 9 UCF women's tennis team opens NCAA Tournament action on Friday, hosting the first and second rounds at the USTA Collegiate Tennis Center at the USTA National Campus.
The nationally seeded Knights welcome Charleston Southern, FIU and Miami for first and second round action. FIU and Miami are slated for a noon start, followed by a 3 p.m. start for UCF and Charleston Southern.
UCF faces Charleston Southern in first round action. The Bucs are making their second all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament after winning the 2021 Big South regular season and tournament titles with a 6-0 record in conference play; they earned an overall record of 10-7 on the campaign. Friday's meeting is the second all-time between the Knights and the Bucs. UCF won the previous meeting 6-0 on March 18, 1996.
The Knights earned their third straight NCAA Tournament bid while garnering a national seed for the first time in program history.
Making the seventh overall appearance, UCF returns to the postseason following a Sweet 16 run in 2019. In each of their last three NCAA Tournament's the Knights have advanced one round further than the previous appearance.
Should the Knights advance to the Second Round, they'd face either FIU or Miami. The Black and Gold have seen the other two squads in recent memory as UCF topped Miami 4-0 earlier this season and have won three straight against FIU, most recently in March of 2019.
