UCF Earns No. 9 Seed in NCAA Tournament

ORLANDO, Fla. - For the first time in program history, the UCF women's tennis team has earned a national seed in the NCAA Tournament and the No. 9 Knights will host first and second round action at the USTA National Campus May 7-8.

The Knights remained at No. 8 in the Oracle/ITA team rankings - their highest slot in program history  - last week. UCF earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after winning back-to-back conference titles on April 25, beating South Florida, Houston and No. 46 Tulsa along the way.

UCF opens NCAA action on Friday, hosting Charleston Southern at noon. FIU and Miami will face off in first round action following that, with the winners of each match advancing to play on May 8.

This is UCF's third consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. They progressed over the last two tournaments, advancing to the Second Round in 2018 with a win over FIU before falling 4-3 to nationally seeded Miami. The Knights made it to the Sweet 16 in 2019, sweeping Alabama the first round and upsetting No. 11 nationally seeded FSU 4-1.

UCF has faced Charleston Southern just once before, beating them 6-0 back in March of 1996.

The Black and Gold are the only team from the American Athletic Conference to reach the NCAA Tournament this season.

The Knights will have a chance to have home court advantage throughout the postseason. The Sweet 16 all the way through to the national championship match will take place at the USTA National Campus. If UCF keeps winning, they'll keep playing on their home courts. The Knights have gone unbeaten at home this season; they also finished the 2019 campaign with a perfect record in Orlando.
