ORLANDO, Fla. – The UCF men's tennis team has earned a national seed in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. The No. 9 Knights will host first and second round action at the USTA National Campus May 8-9.
The Knights returned to the top 10 in the Oracle/ITA team rankings - matching their highest slot in program history at No. 9. UCF earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after winning its first American Athletic Conference title on April 24, and is riding a 13-match winning streak heading into the NCAA Tournament.
UCF opens NCAA action on Saturday, hosting Monmouth at 2 p.m. Mississippi State and Miami will face off in first round action, with the winners of each match advancing to play on May 9.
This will be UCF's second consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament as they fell in a heartbreaker to FSU in the First Round in 2019. A Knight win in the First Round of this year's tournament would be the first NCAA Tournament victory in program history.
Saturday's match will be the first time that UCF faces Monmouth. The Second Round could contain another inaugural meeting as the Knights have never crossed paths with Mississippi State.
The Black and Gold were one of five teams from the American Athletic Conference to reach the NCAA Tournament this season. A total of seven American teams were ranked in the top 50 going into conference tournament weekend.
The Knights will have a chance to have home court advantage throughout the entire postseason. The Sweet 16 all the way through to the national championship match will take place at the USTA National Campus. If UCF keeps winning, they'll keep playing on their home courts. The Knights have gone 13-2 at home this season.
