Travale Named Conference Player of the Week

ORLANDO – The American Athletic Conference announced its weekly men's golf player of the week award on Wednesday and UCF's Johnny Travale was named the golfer of the week after finishing tied for sixth place at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational with a 69-69-71=209(-7) score.

Travale led all Knights over the weekend in a stacked field of competition that included six top-25 teams in No. 17 Pepperdine, No. 3 Oklahoma State, No. 5 Illinois, No. 6 Arizona State, No. 14 Arizona, and No. 24 South Florida.

Travale bested 14 opponents ranked in the latest GolfStat Top 100 and was one of seven players with multiple rounds in the 60s and one of just six golfers under par in all three rounds on the par-72, 7,053-yard Forest Hills Golf Club. Travale dropped just five shots throughout the entire weekend, canceling out the five bogeys with 12 birdies.

"If you look at [Johnny's] performance this week, you saw two rounds of golf that were well under par. His ball striking was good… I think he played an intelligent first two rounds of golf and he stuck to his game plan. He knew where his strengths were and were not, and I am proud of him for that."

Travale posted a very strong first day in Augusta, finishing the first two rounds in the 60's to sit in the top ten among all individuals after day one.

Building on a tremendous first two rounds, Travale shot 71(-1) on the final day in Augusta to finish out the tournament with a (209, -7) score.

As a team, UCF posted a 858(-6) score in the tournament to finsih tied with No. 6 Arizona State in sixth place.

"If you look at our group as a whole… I think we have a lot of talent and we just now have the whole, cohesive group together," said Wallor.
