Charmasson Leads the Way After First Round at AAC Championship

Tournament Central Stats

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – Led by junior Clement Charmasson, the Knights posted a solid first round at the American Athletic Conference Championship on Friday in Brooksville, Florida, finishing at an even 288 to sit tied at fifth place overall.

At the end of day one, the Knights sit just three strokes shy of second place (Memphis; 285(-3)), but South Florida currently leads all teams with a 270(-18) total.

"If you look at par five scoring, we are eight under," said head coach Bryce Wallor. "That was an area where we did well today. We just need our upperclassmen to gut it out and play good rounds of golf… We just need to tighten a few things up and see if we can keep it going."

Charmasson led the charge for UCF in the opening round, shooting at 4-under 68, to finish tied for fourth place among individuals. He knocked down five birdies on day one and just one bogey.

Trailing closely behind him, Johnny Travale and Teddy Tetak each turned in 73(+1) performances in the first round to sit tied for 19th place. Travale started off slow with four bogeys on the front nine but worked himself closer toward even on the back nine, securing three birdies and eagling the par five hole 12. Meanwhile, Tetak was relatively consistent throughout the first round, bogeying and birdying twice on the front nine and shooting just one over on the back nine.

Rounding things out, Egor Eroshenko shot 74(+2) while Max O'Hagan turned in a 75(+3) day one performance.

The Knights will tee off in round two of The American's Men's Golf Championship on hole one Saturday at 8:43 a.m. Fans can follow along live on Golfstat.com here.
