ORLANDO, Fla. – After earning the American Athletic Conference's regular season and tournament crowns, the UCF men's soccer team climbed two spots in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll to No. 18.
The Knights have steadily risen in college soccer's primary poll. They cracked back into the top 25 on April 6 at No. 24 before making a four-spot leap the next week to No. 20. UCF received votes for three straight weeks prior to breaking the ceiling to get back into the top 25.
With some teams playing their season in the fall and others taking place in the spring, a new United Soccer Coaches Poll was not released until March 2. The Black and Gold missed the cut in the March 2 and 9 polls but began receiving votes in the March 16 edition. Prior to March 2, the Black and Gold had been ranked since Oct. 9 of 2018 when UCF cracked into the poll at No. 19. They hadn't left the top 20 since that time and were top 15 or better since Sep. 17, 2019. The Knights climbed as high as No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, reaching their program best mark on Nov. 12.
UCF's opponent for the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament, James Madison, sits just one spot ahead of them at No. 17 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. They moved up one spot from last week's poll
The two are similarly ranked in College Soccer News' Poll as well, as the Knights check in at No. 16 while James Madison sits at No. 15. The Black and Gold remain unranked in Top Drawer Soccer's Poll while they have James Madison at No. 7.
