Jones Named Athlete of the Week

Opens in a new window The American Release

ORLANDO – A record-setting performance led Rayniah Jones to American Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week honors, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

Jones continued her streak in the 100-meter hurdles at the Tom Jones Memorial as she set the freshman record for the fourth straight meet. The outdoor rookie ran a 13.04 to finish fourth in the finals.

The Miami native also posted the top time in the preliminaries – 13.23 – to advance to the finals.

Not only was Jones' time a personal best, it also put her at the top of The American performance list in the 100-meter hurdles.  She ranks seven on the NCAA East Outdoor Qualifying list and is 12th nationally in the event.

UCF returns to action this weekend, hosting the Knights Invite April 23-24 at the UCF Track Complex.
