GAINESVILLE – The UCF track and field team closed out the Tom Jones Memorial with another strong showing on Saturday on the Percy Beard Track in James G. Pressly Stadium.
"(We had) another solid weekend," UCF head coach Dana Boone said. "This team continues to figure things out each week. The interesting part is we still haven't scratched the surface of all the things we can really do. We will take some time and get ready for our final home meet of the season next week."
Rayniah Jones continued her streak in the 100-meter hurdles as she set the freshman record for the fourth straight meet with a 13.04 to finish fourth in the finals. The Miami native posted the top time in the preliminaries – 13.23 – to advance to the finals. Jones' 13.04 was not only a personal best, it is also the top mark in the American Athletic Conference and puts Jones among the top 10 nationally in the event.
Alexandra Del Re posted a personal best 10:11.09 to finish second in the 3000-meter run. Her mark puts her fourth on UCF's top performers list.
The Knights picked up a podium finish in the high jump as Kaliah Jones cleared a personal best 5-6.5/1.69m to finish third overall.
The 4x4 relay closed out the meet with a season-best performance. Danielle Bess, Kai'lyn Kirkland, Samieryah Bradwell and Latasha Smith finished ninth overall with a time of 3:37.42.
A pair of Knights – Asherah Collins and Ani Wells - turned in personal best performances and Beyonce Defreitas posted her second straight meet with a sub-12 second mark to make it a trio in the top 20 of the 100-meter dash.
UCF returns to Orlando to host the Knights Invite April 23-24 at the UCF Track Complex.
