ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 18 UCF women's tennis team is set for a top 20 in-state Power 6 showdown as they visit No. 4 FSU in their final road match of the season on Friday at 3 p.m.
The Knights are fresh off a 7-0 sweep of their War On I-4 rival, bringing them to a 13-4 mark this season. Valeriya Zeleva earned a tough straight set win at No. 1 singles, triumphing in two tiebreakers to extend her winning streak to nine straight.
After not facing the Seminoles for six seasons, UCF has matched up with FSU three times over the past two seasons. The Knights fell to the Seminoles in late January in 2019 but went on to beat them in the Sweet 16 in Tallahassee for the first win over FSU in program history. A banged up Black and Gold squad was edged by a top ten Florida State team, falling 4-3 during the shortened 2020 season.
The Seminoles are 16-3 this season and are perfect at home going 12-0. FSU has two ranked singles players with Giulia Pairone No. 10 and Emmanuelle Salas at No. 40. Four tandems are ranked for Florida State, the highest being No. 5 Andrea Garcia and Nandini Das. Salas and Victoria Allen sit at No. 19, Petra Hule and Allen make the nation's No. 45 pair, while Hule and Pairone are at No. 87
