ORLANDO, Fla. – After playing a big part in yet another shutout, Yannik Oettl and Yanis Leerman have been named as Goalkeeper and Defensive Player of the Week respectively. Gino Vivi lands a spot on the honor roll as well for his two-goal performance.
Oettl earned his fifth shutout of the season in UCF's 3-0 win over Memphis on Friday. In just eight matches this season, Oettl has almost tied his season-high mark in shutouts which was six 20 matches played in 2019. This is the fifth time this year in a ten-week campaign that Oettl has been named the conference's Goalkeeper of the Week.
The Knights have won six matches in a row, which also happens to be the amount of time that Leerman has been back in the lineup for the Black and Gold. Leerman has played a big part in helping UCF post four shutouts in their last five matches. The solid defense has allowed the Knights to outscore their opponents 14-2 on their six-match winning streak. The Defensive Player of the Week nod is his second of the season, earning them on back-to-back weeks to close out the regular season.
Vivi earns a spot on the honor roll after netting two goals this weekend. He opened the scoring in the first half with a goal in the 25th minute before adding the final score of the evening in the 64th. Vivi doubled his goal total this season as he now sits with four goals and two assists.
