ORLANDO – After leading the Knights to two sweeps over South Florida over the weekend and helping the black and gold secure an undefeated record in league play, UCF right side hitter Anne-Marie Watson was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
The award marks the first in Watson's career.
"Anne-Marie has been deserving of this award all season long. I'm glad she was finally recognized for it," said UCF head coach Todd Dagenais. "The combination of her hitting percentage and blocks per set has her among the nation's elite right side attackers. She has been so deserving, I am thrilled to see her finally get her recognition."
Watson helped guide UCF to a season-ending sweep against rival South Florida to complete an undefeated 8-0 campaign in the East Division of The American. She averaged 4.17 points per set (fifth in the conference), a .385 hitting percentage (fourth in the conference and chipped in 1.33 blocks per set (fourth in the conference) for the Knights during the series. Watson hit .364 with five block assists in three sets against the Bulls on March 26 and hit at a .412 clip with three block assists in the finale against the Bulls on March 27.
Watson currently ranks sixth in the conference with 1.10 blocks per set and she checks in at seventh with 56 total blocks.
Following the weekend sweep over South Florida, UCF will now turn its attention to the postseason as the Knights will head to Cincinnati, Ohio to play in the second annual American Athletic Conference Championship Tournament. UCF will play Tulane in the semifinal game on Friday, April 2 at 2:00 p.m. The Knights faced The Green Wave at home earlier this season, defeating them twice, both 3-1.
