ORLANDO, Fla. – Wednesday's release of the Oracle/ITA singles, doubles and team rankings were highlighted by Gabriel Decamps climbing to No. 4 in the singles rankings, making him the first player to crack into the top 5 in program history. Decamps, along with Trey Hilderbrand, check in at No. 21 in the doubles rankings. The UCF men's tennis team sits at No. 26 in the Oracle/ITA team rankings and at No. 20 in the Tennis Channel/USTA College Tennis Top 25.
No. 4 Decamps is having a fantastic season in singles play, compiling a 10-1 record at the top spot in the lineup. He's gone 4-1 against ranked opposition, including two wins against top 10 players. He's been victorious in eight consecutive matches and continues to prove that he is every bit deserving of a top 5 spot in the rankings.
Decamps is the first player to break into the top 5 mark in singles. Prior to Decamps' arrival, Korey Lovett was the highest ranked Knight in singles, checking in at No. 42 in May of 2017. Since then, Decamps has earned 15 different rankings higher than that. The new No. 4 ranking beats the previous personal best and program record of No. 7, set by Decamps in February of 2020. He was the nation's No. 16 player in singles coming into 2021.
The Black and Gold's top tandem of Decamps and Hilderbrand are at No. 21 in the doubles rankings. Since they hadn't played together as a pair prior to this season, this is the first ranking they've received. Together, the two have compiled a 7-3 record at the No. 1 doubles position, including four straight wins over ranked opponents. After falling to the Gators' No. 45 pair, the Knight duo beat Nos. 38, 22, 48 and 56 in consecutive matches as part of a six-match winning streak.
This week's release of the Tennis Channel/USTA College Tennis Top 25 is the first of the season and has the Knights at No. 20. The computer rankings of the Oracle/ITA team rankings also made their 2021 debut this week, putting UCF at No. 26.
