ORLANDO – One year ago, the UCF rowing team was coming to terms with the fact that its chase for a sixth straight American Athletic Conference title was being put on hold. Facilities were being closed; team members going home. Athletics – and the world – came to a screeching halt with the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Saturday, the Knights return to the water, one year to the day of its home regatta that didn't happen. UCF opens its 2021 campaign on Lake Pickett, hosting Jacksonville and Stetson.
The Varsity Eight opens racing at 9:15 a.m., followed by the 2V8 race at 9:30. A Varsity Four race is slated for a 9:45 start. The 10 a.m. hour starts with a 3V8 race and the day wraps with a 10:15 a.m. 4V8 race.
While spectators will be allowed at the UCF Intercollegiate Rowing Center, but will be limited to the east side of the viewing area. No spectators will be allowed in the team areas. Face coverings are required to be worn at all times and attendees are expected to maintain six feet of physical distancing to the greatest extent possible.
