Oettl, Barry Honored as Players of the Week

ORLANDO, Fla. – After an outstanding team performance against No. 9 SMU, UCF men's soccer goalkeeper Yannik Oettl and forward Hattabiou Barry were named as American Athletic Conferences Players of the Week.

Oettl earned the nod as The American's Goalkeeper of the Week after an eight-save, shutout performance. The mark ties a single-game career best as Oettl denied eight shots on the road against Memphis in October of 2019. Oettl faced a total of 12 shots in his return to action after being inactive for the past two weeks. This is the second time Oettl has been named the conference's Goalkeeper of the Week, the other time coming off the heels of his clean sheet against Temple.

With his shutout over the Mustangs, Oettl has tallied 14 shutouts in his time as a Knight. He climbs into a tie of fifth place with Shawn Doyle (2009-12) on UCF's career shutouts list with that mark. He can rise into a tie of fourth place with another clean sheet this season.

Barry was crowned as The American's Offensive Player of the Week for his attacking efforts this week. Barry opened the scoring in the 11th minute against SMU, scoring on a short hop in front off a beautiful feed from Gino Vivi. Barry continued to test the goalkeeper, firing off a total of four shot attempts by the end of the match. The goal was the first of the season for Barry as he now has six in his career.
