UCF Rises One Spot in Rankings to #18

Opens in a new window Oracle/ITA Team Rankings

ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 18 UCF men's tennis team rose one spot in the latest release of the Oracle/ITA team rankings after splitting decisions on their weekend matches.

After being ranked at No. 16, a program record, in the preseason, the Knights fell to No. 19 without playing a match. UCF kicked off the season with a tight 5-2 loss to the No. 11 Florida Gators. The Black and Gold went down 3-0 but had a chance to pull off the victory as the four remaining courts were all in third sets.

Long-time rivals South Florida visited the Knights on Sunday, a much earlier-than-usual meeting between the two sides. The doubles segment was intense throughout, but it was UCF who collected the first point of the match with a Gabriel Decamps and Trey Hilderbrand 7-6 (7-4) win on court one. UCF rode that momentum all the way to the finish line, recording a 6-1 victory to earn three War on I-4 points for the Black and Gold.

UCF will head south for a tilt with Miami on Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. The last time these two sides met was on College MatchDay in 2019 where the Knights swept the Hurricanes 4-0. The Black and Gold will be looking to pick up their third consecutive victory over Miami when they meet next weekend.
