Knights Take on Memphis Again Wednesday

MEMPHIS – The UCF men's basketball team will take on Memphis for the second time in three days, tipping off at 8 p.m. ET at the FedEx Forum Wednesday night with coverage on ESPN+ and FM 96.9 The Game.
 
The Knights (4-8, 2-7) weren't able to get anything going against the Tigers (10-6, 6-3) on Monday, falling behind 17-3 and never catching up. Memphis won 96-69 in the first game of the series in Memphis after turning UCF over 28 times. 
 
UCF looks for its second win in Memphis, having won just one time in 18 games played in the all-time series in Bluff City.

Mistakes in Memphis                                      

  • The Knights lost for the seventh time in eight games when they allowed turnovers to get the best of them in Monday's 96-69 loss to Memphis.
  • The Tigers set an American Athletic Conference record with 20 steals in the win, the first time UCF had allowed its opponent to record 20 steals since Jan. 11, 1993 against Centenary.
  • The Knights turned the ball over 28 times and only had 12 assists.
  • Memphis shot 56.3 percent from the field and 48.1 percent from 3-point range in the game.
  • Landers Nolley II led the Tigers with 20 points, while Brandon Mahan had a team-high 15 for the Knights.

Mahan Making Waves                                                   

  • In his second season with the Knights, Brandon Mahan has been impressive, leading UCF and ranking ninth in The American in scoring with 14.7 points per game.
  • As a senior this season he currently leads The American with a 48.9 percent mark from 3-point range, ranks second in the league with an 86.7 percent mark from the free throw line, and is seventh with a 50.4 percent mark from the field. 
  • Mahan earned AAC Player of the Week honors for his 32-point outing in the win at Florida State and was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll the following week.

Beating Ranked Opponents                                       

  • Prior to Dawkins' arrival at UCF, the program had won three games against ranked opponents from 1984-2016. Since Dawkins has taken over, the Knights have won five games against ranked opponents in just over four seasons.
  • UCF had never won two games against ranked teams in a single season, and the Knights did it in a span of five days, taking down no. 6 Houston and no. 19 Cincinnati late in the 2018-19 season.
  • UCF is now 8-48 all-time against ranked opponents, but 5-14 against ranked teams under Dawkins.
