February 17, 10 a.m. #9 Texas A&M vs. #18 UCF LIVE STATS | WATCH |
ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 18 UCF men's tennis team is set to get back to match action against No. 9 Texas A&M on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the UCF Collegiate Tennis Center at the USTA National Campus.
The match between the Knights and the Aggies was added over the weekend after UCF's match against No. 12 Georgia was postponed.
The Knights come into the match with a record of 2-1, not having played a match in 10 days. Their last tilt was against an in-state Power 6 foe as the Black and Gold went down to Miami and came away with a 4-3 win over the Hurricanes. Mikhail Sokolovskiy clinched the match in a three-set battle at the final singles position.
Texas A&M are out to a promising start in their season as they enter the match with a record of 3-1. The Aggies opened the season at No. 17 Ole Miss and earned a 4-3 victory. They swept No. 21 Pepperdine in the first round of ITA Kickoff Weekend and added a 7-0 sweep of FGCU their last time out.
The Aggies come into the match boasting five ranked singles players. Valentin Vacherot is currently ranked as the nation's No. 4 singles player, followed closely by Hady Habib at No. 13. They're followed by No. 33 Juan Carlos Aguilar, No. 110 Barnaby Smith and No. 116 Noah Schachter. Texas A&M has one ranked doubles tandem at No. 48 consisting of Bjorn Thomson and Carlos Aguilar.
With tomorrow's match, three of UCF's four contests will be against out of conference Power 6 opponents and two of the four against ranked teams. The Knights opened the season with a tight 5-2 loss to No. 11 Florida and then went on to dominate South Florida in a 6-1 victory later that weekend. The Black and Gold added the victory over Miami on Feb. 7 and look to keep the momentum going from that victory.
