Brittney Smith Named The American Player of the Week

ORLANDO – A career-best performance led UCF junior Brittney Smith to American Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors on Monday.

Returning from a 16-day pause between games, Smith came back not only with her best performance of the season, but arguably of her career. She poured in a career-high 25 points to lead all scorers in UCF's 70-51 win at Cincinnati on Feb. 13. She also grabbed a career-best 12 rebounds for her first double-double performance of the season and the third of her career.

The Orlando native finished the game making a career-best 10 field goals on 76.9 percent shooting. Smith was perfect from the field in 3 of the 4 quarters. She started the game a perfect 4-4 from the field and 2-2 at the free throw line for 10 points at halftime.

In addition to her double-double, Smith matched her season best with two steals and added a block in 33 minutes to fill the stat sheet.

Smith was joined by teammate Alisha Lewis, who added 24 points, to give UCF its first game with two  20-point scorers since March 17, 2017. The Black and Gold picked up the 10th win of the season and fifth-straight to improve to 10-2 overall and 8-1 in league play.

Monday's honor marks the first of Smith's career. She becomes the fourth Knight – joining Aliyah Gregory, Zykira Lewis and Kay Kay Wright – as The American Player of the Week honorees and is the first since Wright earned the distinction on March 3, 2020.
