ORLANDO, Fla. – After 464 days without a meaningful match, the UCF women's soccer team is primed to kick off its 40th season on Sunday as they travel to Philidelphia, Pa. to take on Temple on Sunday, Feb. 14 at 1 p.m.
A season ago, UCF went 11-4-4 and advanced to the semifinal round of the American Athletic Conference Championship tournament in 2019, finishing 5-2-2 in conference play. The Knights return nine members of its squad who clocked time in at least 10 matches in 2019 while welcoming 11 newcomers to the roster. In addition to the seven rookies that call the Sunshine State home, UCF also added experience in Trescott Shamlou, a transfer from Notre Dame.
THE SCHEDULE
The Knights will play four home games and four away games this spring, all American Athletic Conference contests. UCF will play every Sunday, beginning on Feb. 14 with the regular season concluding April 11. All home matches start at 1 p.m. and are free to attend. More information on attendance policies can be found below.
Following the eight-game schedule, the top eight teams will participate in The American Championship, which is scheduled to be hosted by the No. 1 seed in the conference, with the semifinals being played Thursday, Apr. 15, while the championship match will be Saturday, Apr. 17.
Matches will be streamed on ESPN+ this season. Links to the stream as well as stats for the match can be found on the team's schedule page.
PRESEASON HONORS
Reigning in the first accolades of the 2020-21 season, junior Kristen Scott and sophomore Ellie Moreno were recognized by the American Athletic Conference after being named to the Preseason All-Conference Team, the league announced Wednesday afternoon.
Orlando native, Kristen Scott appeared in all 19 regular season contests in 2019, earning a start in 18 matches during her sophomore season. A season ago, Scott earned Second Team All-Conference honors after emerging as the Knights leading scorer with eight goals, tallying 17 points.
Following up an All-Rookie campaign from 2019, Ellie Moreno was also included on the AAC Preseason All-Conference Team. Moreno, a Winter Park, Fla. native, scored her first collegiate goal less than 10 minutes after taking the pitch for the first time as a Knight and went on to find the back of the net four times.
