VOTE GETTERS
For the third straight week, UCF is among the squads receiving votes in the USA Today/WBCA Top 25. The Knights first appeared on Dec. 22.
The Black and Gold opened the 2019-20 season receiving votes in the USA Today rankings. In 2018-19, UCF was among the teams receiving votes in 19 of the 20 USA Today rankings and earned votes for the first time in school history in the AP Top 25. The Knights also picked up votes in three consecutive polls during the 2017-18 campaign.
KNIGHT NOTES
UCF enters the weekend with a 5-1 overall record. The Black and Gold are off to a 3-0 start in The American for the third time in the last four seasons.
A pair of Knights are averaging double figures, led by Courtajia Sanders' 12.8 points per game. Sanders also leads the Black and Gold with 2.7 steals per game. Diamond Battles is just behind her with 11.8 points per contest and leads the Knights with 3.7 assists per game.
Recording at least four rebounds in every contest she's seen action, Destiny Thomas paces the Knights on the boards with 6.0 per game. Masseny Kaba matches her just behind her with 6.0 rebounds per game and is the fourth-leading scorer at 8.0 points per contest.
Nationally, the Knights defense remains one of the stingiest in the country. UCF ranks sixth in scoring defense, holding opponents to 50.3 points per game. The Black and Gold's opponents are shooting just 34.7 percent from the field, which ranks 34th in the country.
SCOUTING TEMPLE
The Owls enter the weekend with a 3-3 overall record. Temple has won three straight to open league play with a 3-0 record.
Mia Davis averages a double-double to lead the Owls, with 21.5 points per game and 10.5 rebounds per contest. She's shooting 52.2 percent from the field. Alexa Williamson averages 11.7 points per game for Temple. Asonah Alexander averages 7.8 rebounds and, 6.3 assists and 1.8 blocks per contest.
Alexander ranks ninth nationally in assists per game, averaging 6.3. Davis ranks 20th in the county and leads the league with four double-double performances in 2020-21. As a team, Temple ranks 57th in rebounds per game with 42.17.
Temple holds an 8-6 advantage in the all-time series, but the Knights have won five of the last six meetings.
