ORLANDO – After helping the UCF women's basketball team to a 2-0 start in American Athletic Conference action, Kiera Brown was named the Freshman of the Week by the league on Monday.

The Riviera Beach native earned her first career start in the conference opener against Tulane on Dec. 15. Brown set career marks against the Green Wave with eight points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. The redshirt guard shot 50 percent from the field. Brown also dished out a pair of assists at Tulsa.

Brown made her collegiate debut at LSU after missing all of last season with an injury and worked her way into the starting lineup just three games into her UCF career.

Masseny Kaba earned a spot on The American honor roll. She averaged 12.5 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per contest. The Dorchester, Mass., native tallied her third career double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds at Tulsa.

Monday's honor marks the first of Brown's career and the first for a Knight since Masseny Kaba earned the distinction on Jan. 22, 2018.
