Knights Add Kentucky Transfer Kento Yamada

ORLANDO, Fla. – The UCF men's tennis team have landed junior transfer Kento Yamada. He spent his first two seasons with the University of Kentucky.

Yamada went 23-10 in singles during his last full campaign in 2018-19 and was victorious in his first 11 finished singles matches of the season. He was on pace to do just as well in the shortened 2020 dual match season where he posted a singles record of 10-2 and finished with five straight victories.

The Kobe, Japan native has already spent a few years in the United States and has seen some of the best competition there is to offer. He tallied six wins during the 2018-19 season against top-25 teams. He finished his 2018-19 season with 11-13 doubles record with wins over players from No. 3 Wake Forest, No. 17 Alabama, No. 17 Georgia and No. 21 Oklahoma.

The Knights have a seasoned team heading into the 2020-21 campaign, now boasting six juniors out of the 10 rostered players. With them is a talented trio of sophomores that have already made their mark and a talented incoming freshman. The team looks to start the 2021 dual match season the way they ended 2020, when they finished 10-3 and won their last eight matches.
