ORLANDO – UCF Volleyball secured another addition to its 2021 incoming class on Monday as head coach Todd Dagenais announced the signing of Katelyn Grimes.
Grimes is a five-foot-six-inch Libero/Defensive Specialist. She comes to UCF from Lebanon, Ohio, where she was a four-year letter-winner at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy.
"We identified Katelyn at such an early age because she was so far ahead of her peers," said Dagenais. "Programs that aspire to compete at the national level must have the ball control to effectively run their offense at a very high level, and Katelyn's ball control is extremely advanced.
"Furthermore, Katelyn's ability to play defense and read gives us another line of defense to go with what we have on the floor already. For the first time in a very long time, we are very deep in the back court."
Grimes recently concluded play in her senior season at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, finishing with 304 digs, 101 aces and 225 kills. She was named to the 2020 American Volleyball Coaches Association High Scholl All-Region Team, MVC All-Conference First Team, OHSVCA All-District DIII First Team and OHSVCA All-Ohio DIII Second Team. She was also named to the 2020 Under Armour All-America Watch List.
Grimes' sister, Andrea, currently plays volleyball for Morehead State University as a Sophomore.
"UCF has outstanding academic and athletic programs with many opportunities," said Grimes. "The community is great, I love the campus, and the weather is nice throughout the year. I love all the volleyball coaches and the UCF team culture. It will be a great experience for me."
Grimes plans to pursue a degree in Computer Sciences during her time at UCF.
