ORLANDO – UCF Men's Golfer Clement Charmasson was back in his element over the weekend as he captured first place in the Grand Prix of Fiac. The UCF junior paced the field with a 74-64=138(-4) finish.
"I have been playing really well during the summer and this win gives me confidence," said Charmasson. "It's always good for the mind to come away with a victory. My long game was working really well, especially in the difficult weather."
The event took place in Charmasson's home country of France, at the Etangs de Fiac Golf Club in Fiac, Tarn, France. Play concluded after two rounds of play on Sunday, October 4.
Charmasson was masterful in the final round, shooting -7 to secure the victory, including seven Birdies and an Eagle on the final hole of the front nine. Only one other golfer was within four strokes of Charmasson's final score and only four of the 54-player field were within 10 strokes of his 138 finish.
Charmasson has cemented himself as one of UCF's key contributors on the golf course over his first two seasons in the black and gold. As a freshman in 2018-19, he competed in all 10 tournaments for the Knights, posting nine rounds under par and finishing with a 73.31 stroke average.
Last season, Charmasson was once again a mainstay in the Knights' lineup, recording four rounds in the 60's and leading UCF at the Island Resort Collegiate and Hartford Hawks Invitational, where the Knights finished first overall for the third straight year. Over the course of the COVID-19 shortened season, Charmasson held a 72.24 average.
